Finance minister urges banks to aid in priority sector development

KARACHI: During a meeting here in Karachi with the banking sector representatives, Finance Minister Muhammad Aurangzeb called upon the banking industry to bolster the government’s developmental objectives in priority sectors.

He urged the banks to enhance financing to key sectors such as agriculture, small and medium enterprises, and Information Technology.

Accompanied by State Bank of Pakistan (SBP) Governor Jameel Ahmed, the Minister engaged with CEOs and Presidents of several prominent banks in Pakistan.

He reaffirmed the government’s dedication to collaborating closely with the banking sector to meet the financing requirements of pivotal sectors.

He also urged the Pakistan Banks’ Association to spearhead a task force comprising representatives from the banking realm, government officials, and pertinent stakeholders.

Their mandate would be to craft actionable strategies aimed at surmounting prevailing challenges and obstacles obstructing the progress of priority sectors.
