SECP, education ministry ink MoU to foster financial literacy among students

SECP has signed an MOU with the Ministry of Federal Education to boost financial literacy in federal educational institutions.

WEB DESK: The Securities and Exchange Commission of Pakistan (SECP) has entered into a Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) with the Ministry of Federal Education and Professional Training to enhance financial literacy among students in federal educational institutions.

The Chairman of SECP, Akif Saeed, and the Special Secretary of the Ministry of Federal Education and Professional Training, Mohyuddin Ahmad Wani, jointly signed the MoU.

The primary objective of the MoU is to incorporate financial literacy topics into the curricula of federal government schools and colleges.

This initiative includes providing educators with necessary skills through a teacher’s training programme and conducting interactive seminars for students across all degree colleges in Islamabad.

Senior officials from the Ministry of Federal Education and Professional Training and the Federal Directorate of Education were also present at the occasion.

During the signing ceremony, Chairman Akif Saeed emphasised that empowering youngsters with financial literacy is crucial to ensuring they grasp fundamental concepts such as budgeting, saving, investing, and debt management from an early age.

Awareness of financial risks and responsibilities reduces their vulnerability to pitfalls like debt accumulation and poor investment choices.

Mr. Mohyuddin Ahmad Wani, Special Secretary of the Ministry of Federal Education and Professional Training, underscored the government’s unwavering commitment to advancing financial literacy initiatives.

He stressed the significance of integrating financial education into secondary and higher secondary-level curricula to equip students with practical financial knowledge.

Mr. Wani also highlighted the pivotal role of a financially literate youth population in driving economic growth through fostering a culture of savings, investment, and entrepreneurship.
