CM Maryam warns against selling bread above fixed price in Punjab

LAHORE: Chief Minister (CM) Punjab, Maryam Nawaz Sharif, has issued strict directives to authorities, mandating that bread should not be sold above the fixed price in any city within the province.

The instructions were given during a special meeting on price control, which she chaired immediately after returning to Lahore from Murree.

During the meeting, CM Maryam Nawaz Sharif conducted a thorough review of food prices, with particular emphasis on the prices of bread and flour in each district.

She emphasised the importance of ensuring that flour is supplied to people across the province at controlled rates, reflecting the government’s commitment to easing the financial burden on citizens.

Secretary Industry, Ehsan Bhatta, briefed the Chief Minister on the current prices of essential commodities in Punjab. The meeting also included a detailed overview of the administration’s efforts to control prices in various districts.

It was highlighted that, according to a report from the Pakistan Bureau of Statistics (PBS), Punjab currently has the lowest food prices compared to other provinces.

CM Maryam Nawaz Sharif expressed satisfaction with the province’s price control mechanisms and commended the administrative authorities for their effective efforts in this regard.

The meeting was attended by Senator Pervaiz Rashid, Chairperson of the Price Control Task Force Salma Butt, and MPA Sania Ashiq. Chief Secretary Zahid Akhtar Zaman, Principal Secretary to the CM Sajid Zafar Dal, Secretary Industry, Secretary Agriculture, and other relevant officers were also present.
