Pakistan to grant free visas to Chinese citizens starting August 14

China leads as top investor in Pakistan

WEB DESK: Pakistan will introduce a free visa policy for Chinese citizens from August 14, reinforcing its commitment to strengthening ties with Beijing, announced Prime Minister (PM) Shehbaz Sharif on Thursday.

The announcement was made during a meeting with a high-level Chinese delegation led by Minister Wang Fukang. PM Shehbaz, who recently visited China, revealed that he had requested President Xi Jinping and Prime Minister Li Qiang to send experts to Pakistan to assist in modelling its economy after China’s successful model.

PM Shehbaz expressed confidence that the presence of these experts would lead to substantial progress. He highlighted the enduring friendship between China and Pakistan and underscored the importance of advancing industrial cooperation.

The Prime Minister hopes this collaboration will shift industrial activity to Pakistan, creating mutually beneficial joint ventures.

The Prime Minister anticipates that the delegation’s visit will bolster bilateral relations in key areas such as industry, agriculture, and economic zones, and enhance Pakistan’s ability to export high-quality goods to China. He also sees potential in expanding opportunities in mining, IT, and export zones.

Sharif emphasised the depth of the Sino-Pakistani relationship, stating that it surpasses the Himalayas in height and the oceans in depth. Despite Western calls for Islamabad to reconsider its alliance with Beijing, Pakistan remains steadfast in its commitment to maintaining strong ties with its ally.

China has been a reliable partner for Pakistan, notably assisting during financial crises and consistently supporting Pakistani interests in international forums as a permanent member of the UN Security Council.
