WEB DESK: In response to concerns over the diminishing gas reserves in the nation, Minister for Petroleum Musadik Malik unveiled a significant initiative during today’s session of the National Assembly.
The government has embarked on a project valued at Rs4.5 billion aimed at enhancing gas supply to various regions of Karachi.
Highlighting the gravity of the situation, Minister Malik noted that Pakistan’s piped gas reserves are dwindling at an alarming rate of 14 per cent to 15 per cent annually.
In light of this, he stressed the importance of blending domestic gas with imported LNG to ensure a steady and uninterrupted gas supply to the populace.
Additionally, he underscored the necessity of prioritising gas provision for the middle and lower-income segments of society.
During the session, Minister for Finance Muhammad Aurangzeb addressed concerns regarding tax and duty exemptions for the erstwhile FATA and PATA regions.
He clarified that no new legislation is being proposed to extend these exemptions, which have been in place for six years and are set to expire on the 30th of June this year.
Furthermore, Minister Aurangzeb highlighted the demand from the business community for a level playing field across all industries in the upcoming budget discussions.
