Gohar Ejaz advocates for affordable energy prices to boost industrial growth

ISLAMABAD: Dr. Gohar Ejaz, Federal Minister of Commerce, Interior, Industries, Investments, and Overseas Pakistanis, has underscored the pivotal role of energy prices in fostering industrial development and competitiveness within Pakistan.
In a recent statement, Minister Ejaz emphasized the critical need for affordable power rates to sustain industrial operations and propel the nation’s economic advancement. He highlighted the importance of maintaining energy prices at 9 cents per unit for industries, asserting that such affordability is paramount for the survival and growth of the industrial sector.
Minister Ejaz reiterated that industries should not bear the burden of subsidizing other sectors, emphasizing their vital role in job creation, exports, and import substitution.
NEPRA not happy with DISCOS’ performance
He addressed the challenge of balancing household subsidies with the imperative of generating employment opportunities, stressing the primacy of industrial growth in driving economic prosperity.
Furthermore, Minister Ejaz emphasized the significance of expanding exports and bolstering Pakistan’s manufacturing sector to meet ambitious targets in global markets. This includes strategic regions such as China, GCC countries, Africa, ASEAN, EU, UK, and USA.
The proposal to provide electricity to industries at 9 cents per unit aims to level the playing field for local manufacturers, enhancing their competitiveness internationally. Endorsed by the Special Investment Facilitation Council (SIFC), the initiative reflects the government’s steadfast commitment to bolstering industrial growth.
Minister Ejaz expressed confidence that the forthcoming government would address this issue promptly, enabling industries to operate more efficiently and significantly contribute to Pakistan’s economic prosperity.
