KARACHI: After a consistent upward trend, gold prices in Pakistan saw another significant drop on Saturday, with the per tola rate falling by Rs1,600.
According to data released by the All Pakistan Sarafa Gems and Jewellers Association, the price of 24-carat gold now stands at Rs349,400 per tola. Meanwhile, the price of 10 grams fell by Rs1,371 to settle at Rs299,554.
In the international market, gold prices declined by $16 per ounce, bringing the global rate to $3,274.
It is worth noting that just a day earlier, gold had registered a steep drop of Rs5,000 per tola, bringing it down to Rs351,000 after a prolonged period of increases.
Traders attribute the local dip to falling international prices and cautious investor sentiment.
Meanwhile, Topline Securities said in a statement that over 70 per cent of the commercial banks’ accounts in Pakistan contain deposits of less than Rs50,000 while 26 per cent of accounts contain balances between Rs50,000 to Rs1 million.
Over 70pc bank accounts in Pakistan hold less than Rs50,000
While only 3 per cent of the bank accounts have balances over Rs1 million, the statement added.
Notably, the number of people operating a bank account has jumped from a mere 16 per cent in 2015 to a staggering 64 per cent in 2023, according the data of the State Bank of Pakistan, released earlier in the year.
