Rs7.646 billion approved for vital healthcare projects in Punjab

LAHORE: In a noteworthy development, the 44th meeting of the Provincial Development Working Party (PDWP) was convened under the chairmanship of Iftikhar Ali Sahoo, Chairman of the Planning & Development (P&D) Board Punjab.
The meeting marked a pivotal moment as it greenlit three vital development schemes within the Specialised Healthcare and Medical Education (SHC&ME) sector, with an estimated total cost of Rs7.646 billion.
The first project granted approval by PDWP involves the rehabilitation and renovation of hospitals under the Specialised Healthcare and Medical Education Department, specifically focusing on Mayo Hospital in Lahore.
The initiative, conducted through the Health Council/Traditional Mode, is budgeted at Rs2.335 billion. This move is poised to enhance healthcare infrastructure and services, catering to the evolving needs of the populace.
The second scheme in the spotlight pertains to the rehabilitation and renovation of hospitals under the same department, emphasising Sir Ganga Ram Hospital.
The revised cost for this endeavour is Rs1.287 billion. This strategic investment underscores the commitment to upgrading medical facilities and ensuring the provision of quality healthcare to citizens.
A notable development sanctioned by the PDWP is the revamping of Services Hospital, Lahore, constituting the third approved scheme.
Allocated at a cost of Rs4.024 billion, this initiative is expected to usher in a new era for healthcare delivery, fostering improved patient care and modernised facilities.
The meeting witnessed the presence of key stakeholders, including the Secretary of Health, members of the P&D Board, heads of relevant departments, and senior representatives from provincial entities.
Their collective engagement underscores the collaborative effort invested in steering these projects towards successful fruition.
