ISLAMABAD: Honda Pakistan launched its first locally produced sub-compact crossover SUV, the BR-V, in April 2017. In case you don’t know, there is a reason why Honda named it BR-V, it stands for “Bold Runabout Vehicle”.
With the launch of the BR-V, the automaker aimed to target customers looking for a seven-seater vehicle with a compact feel and an affordable price. Honda also made a strong effort to market it as an SUV, though many observers felt it looked more like a ‘wannabe SUV’.
To be fair, it performed well in the market. People bought it despite the criticism it received from Pakistani automotive enthusiasts. Although it is a seven-seater, the third-row seats remain notably uncomfortable and are clearly not suitable for adults.
Some critics still question its identity, “Is it a sedan? A hatchback? An SUV?” Others point out its narrow body, small tyres, and underwhelming road presence. Still, over time, people have become accustomed to its design and have discovered its practical benefits, particularly for road trips and family use.
Believe it or not, the Honda BR-V was launched at Rs2.23 million for the base variant and Rs2.33 million for the i-VTEC and i-VTEC S variants, respectively. It came with a 1.5-litre engine. For context, at that time, the Toyota Corolla GLi 1.3, XLi 1.3, and Corolla Altis 1.6 facelift were also on the market, all priced below Rs2.2 million.
The BR-V offers decent fuel efficiency, with consumption ranging between 10 to 15 kilometres per litre.
According to the company, the relatively low launch price was made possible through the use of local components in the manufacturing process. Honda Atlas hoped the competitive pricing would attract both existing and new customers interested in joining the SUV segment. A Honda Atlas official stated, “SUVs in Pakistan are too costly and are mostly out of range for many customers.”
However, those prices now feel like a distant memory. It has been eight years since the BR-V was first introduced in Pakistan, and prices have surged significantly. As of 2025, the BR-V is available in only one variant, a 1,500cc automatic model, which carries a hefty price tag of Rs6.3 million. That means in 2017, one could have bought nearly three BR-Vs for what one costs today.
Used Honda BR-V price in Pakistan
Despite the steep price of a brand-new Honda BR-V, many buyers are considering used options in 2025. If you are in the market for a manual BR-V, more manual variants are available than automatic ones. A manual 2019 Honda BR-V is priced around Rs3.9 million, while a 2020 model may cost up to Rs4.4 million, depending on condition and other factors.
Interestingly, automatic BR-Vs are more widely available in the used car market and on online car-selling platforms in Pakistan. Prices start from as low as Rs3.6 million for the 2017 model and go up to Rs6.7 million for a 2025 model. The final price depends on condition, model year, registration, added accessories, mileage, and other factors.
