Intraday trade: PKR posts marginal gain against USD

KARACHI: The Pakistani rupee (PKR) registered a slight appreciation against the US dollar (USD), gaining 0.02 per cent during the early hours of trading in the interbank market on Monday.
On the final trading day of June, the PKR was being traded at Rs283.65 against the greenback, up by 7 paisa.
Throughout the previous week, the rupee remained largely stable against the dollar.
However, during the ongoing fiscal year, it has depreciated by Rs5.38 or 1.90 per cent. Since the start of calendar year 2025, the rupee has weakened by Rs5.17 or 1.82 per cent.
Previous session
In Friday’s interbank session, the rupee had closed at Rs283.72 per dollar, marking a loss of 5.56 paisa or 0.02 per cent compared to the previous close of Rs283.67.
In the open market on Friday, exchange companies quoted the dollar at Rs283.70 for buying and Rs285.75 for selling.
PKR’s performance against other foreign currencies
Against the Chinese yuan, the rupee edged lower by 0.45 paisa or 0.01 per cent to close at Rs39.58 from Rs39.57.
It also slipped by 1.72 paisa or 0.02 per cent against the UAE dirham, ending the session at Rs77.26.
Against the Saudi riyal, the rupee declined by 1.28 paisa or 0.02 per cent to close at Rs75.65.
However, the local unit strengthened against some major currencies. It gained 10.81 paisa or 0.03 per cent against the British pound, closing at Rs389.93 compared to Rs390.04 a day earlier.
The PKR also appreciated by 0.66 paisa or 0.33 per cent against the Japanese yen, settling at Rs1.9650 versus Rs1.9716 previously.
Against the euro, the rupee improved by 7.68 paisa or 0.02 per cent to close at Rs332.59 from Rs332.67.
On the other hand, the rupee weakened significantly against the Swiss franc, falling by 75.71 paisa or 0.21 per cent to close at Rs355.16.
