ISLAMABAD: After almost a month since the official launch of Apple Phone 16 series, the prices for the latest flagship smartphones are beginning to ease in Pakistan.
The initial overpricing by local shopkeepers is now showing signs of stabilisation.
For those unfamiliar, shopkeepers and individuals who initially imported the iPhone 16 series were selling the iPhone 16 Pro Max for as much as Rs800,000 during the first week of its launch. Early adopters, eager to get their hands on the device, reportedly paid these hefty prices.
This price surge is often attributed to the absence of an official Apple store in Pakistan, which allows local shopkeepers to set their own prices for newly launched iPhones.
Without an official outlet, Apple does not directly sell the iPhone 16 in the country, giving shop owners the opportunity to overcharge customers. The limited availability of the phones, imported by select individuals and shopkeepers, further contributed to the inflated prices.
However, the situation has started to improve. As more distributors have begun importing the iPhone 16 models, prices have shown signs of easing this month.
Notably, Mercantile, a prominent distributor of Apple products in Pakistan, has started offering PTA-approved iPhone 16 models.
