ISLAMABAD: Pakistan is planning to adopt a workforce skill development model inspired by Tokyo with the aim of improving its standards and tapping into Japan’s vast job market.
During a strategic meeting with a high-level delegation from the Japan-Pakistan Innovation Institute (JPII), Federal Minister for Overseas Pakistanis and Human Resource Development, Chaudhry Salik Hussain, highlighted the importance of technical support over financial aid, according to a press release.
Hussain underscored need for developing skills and launching certification programmes that would help Pakistani workers secure employment opportunities in Japan.
He suggested Japanese institutions operating in Pakistan to focus on skill development and create stronger connections between Pakistani workers and Japanese companies.
Inspired by Tokyo’s specialised training courses, Hussain said that Pakistan could replicate this model to raise its standards and address technical gaps, allowing its workforce to benefit from job openings in Japan.
The meeting concluded with Japan requesting a business plan for their 2025 collaboration. The government is working on establishing Centre of Excellence to further strengthen ties between the two countries, Hussain said.
This initiative is seen as a crucial step towards building stronger partnership between Pakistan and Japan and the collaboration is expected to open up new opportunities for economic growth, knowledge exchange and stronger people-to-people ties to further enhance the bilateral relationship.
