China tops investment in Pakistan with over $45 million in July 2024

ISLAMABAD: China has become the largest foreign investor in Pakistan for July 2024, with a net direct investment of $45.06 million, according to the latest figures from the State Bank of Pakistan (SBP).
Trailing behind China were Hong Kong and the United Kingdom, with investments amounting to $42.45 million and $22.28 million, respectively.
On the other end, Norway led in divestment, pulling out $11.36 million from the country, followed by the Netherlands and Canada, which divested $3.4 million and $2.1 million, respectively.
In addition to direct investments, the Foreign Private Portfolio Investment (FPI), which includes both direct and indirect investments in the equity market, recorded a positive inflow of $23.6 million during July. Sweden was the top portfolio investor for the month, contributing $23.96 million.
