Lahore housing scam victims to receive compensation as NAB recovers Rs2.26 billion

LAHORE: In a significant development, National Accountability Bureau (NAB) Lahore’s Director General, Amjad Majeed Aulakh, has announced the successful recovery of Rs2.26 billion in connection with a housing scam.

Addressing the affected individuals during an open court session held at NAB’s headquarters on Friday, DG Aulakh assured that the retrieved funds would soon be disbursed among approximately 2,300 victims.

The open court session witnessed a substantial turnout of individuals associated with various housing sectors, including Pak-Arab Housing Society, Palm Vista Housing Society, Al-Rehman Garden (Phase-IV), Lahore Garden, Elite Town Housing Society, Ashrafi Town, Wapda Town Cooperative Housing Society, Kasur, and the affected parties of SB Mall, Faisalabad.

Aulakh interacted with the affectees of Palm Vista, who disclosed that they fell victim to deceptive tactics, having been enticed into purchasing membership forms at exorbitant rates by the concerned authorities.

Additionally, the Palm-Vista administration was accused of defrauding the general public about another project named Palm Villas.

Ashrafi Town claimants expressed grievances about alleged harassment and the sale of counterfeit files by the society’s administration. They highlighted the role of dealers (brokers) in misleading individuals, adding another layer of complexity to the situation.

Aulakh informed the attendees that a trial was currently underway based on the references filed by NAB Lahore.

The affectees of SB Mall, Faisalabad, were apprised that out of the 46 claims received, the total required claims needed to reach at least 100, with an accumulated amount of Rs500 million to meet the established threshold.

The ongoing legal proceedings signify a step towards justice for the affected parties, providing a glimmer of hope for those who have suffered financial losses in these housing schemes.
