PBS reports notable YoY increase in Pakistan’s industrial output

ISLAMABAD: The Pakistan Bureau of Statistics (PBS) reported today that Pakistan’s Large-scale Manufacturing Industries (LSMI) experienced a notable year-on-year growth of 5.76 per cent in April 2024.
The production index rose to 106.35, compared to 100.56 in April 2023.
However, on a month-on-month basis, LSMI output saw a significant decline of 8.14 per cent, falling to 106.35 from 115.78 in March 2024.
Cumulatively, for the first ten months of the fiscal year 2024 (10MFY24), LSMI production has shown a modest increase of 0.45 per cent compared to the same period in the previous fiscal year.
The main contributors to the overall growth of 0.45 per cent were:
- Pharmaceuticals (0.97 per cent)
- Garments (0.93 per cent)
- Furniture (0.54 per cent)
- Chemicals (0.52 per cent)
- Petroleum Products (0.49 per cent)
- Food (0.32 per cent)
- Iron & Steel Products (-0.13 per cent)
- Cement (-0.20 per cent)
- Electrical Equipment (-0.26 per cent)
- Tobacco (-0.54 per cent)
- Automobiles (-0.86 per cent)
- Textile (-1.29 per cent)
From July 2023 to April 2024, production increased in sectors such as Food, Wearing Apparel, Coke & Petroleum Products, Chemicals, Fertilizers, Pharmaceuticals, Machinery and Equipment, and Furniture. Conversely, it decreased in sectors including Tobacco, Textile, Paper & Board, Non-Metallic Mineral Products, Iron & Steel Products, Electrical Equipment, Automobiles, and Other Transport Equipment.
