ISLAMABAD: If you’re in Pakistan and dreaming of your own two-wheeler but don’t want to go down the road of traditional bank loans, Meezan Bank has something that might just rev your engine. The bank’s Apni Bike financing scheme lets you buy a motorcycle in monthly installments without paying any interest, all in line with Islamic banking principles.
Unlike conventional bike loans, Apni Bike works on the Shariah-compliant concept of Musawwamah. In simple terms, Meezan Bank buys the motorcycle for you and sells it at a mutually agreed profit. You pay it off in fixed monthly installments, and here’s the twist: the bike is yours from day one. No leasing, no waiting for ownership, and no interest piling up over time.
Meezan Bank is now also offering financing at 0 per cent on invoice value for up to 12 months on both petrol and electric motorbikes, based on the same underlying concept of Musawwamah. This gives customers an added short-term option with absolutely no markup, which is a major plus for those looking to avoid long-term commitments.
Buyers can pick a repayment plan of one, two, or three years depending on what suits them. The required down payment ranges from 15 to 50 per cent of the bike’s price, giving customers some room to adjust based on budget. The scheme covers all the usual suspects: Honda, Suzuki, Yamaha, Super Power, and others, so whether you’re after a workhorse or a commuter, you’re covered.
Getting started is pretty straightforward. You’ll need to be between 20 and 60 years old if you’re salaried. Self-employed folks can apply till 65, and you must earn at least Rs40,000 a month. Monthly payments must stay within 40 per cent of your take-home income. The bank currently offers the service in major cities including Karachi, Lahore, Islamabad, Rawalpindi, Faisalabad, and Peshawar.
Approval typically takes five to seven working days once your documents are in. The bank charges a one-time non-refundable processing fee of Rs1,800, along with standard paperwork costs. One standout feature is that you can pay off your plan early without any extra profit or penalty, which is rare in most financing models.
At a time when motorcycles remain one of the most practical and fuel-efficient ways to navigate Pakistani cities, Apni Bike gives people a way to ride on their own terms, both financially and spiritually. Whether you’re a delivery rider looking to upgrade or a first-time buyer hoping to ditch the bus, this might be one of the most sensible ways to get on the road.
