NBP official discovers misprinted Rs1,000 banknotes with blank sides

Misprinted banknote Rs1000

KARACHI: A branch of the National Bank of Pakistan (NBP) located in Karachi has reported a concerning incident involving misprinted currency notes of Rs1,000 issued by the State Bank of Pakistan (SBP), sparking worries over potential negligence.

In a video shared by ARY News, a manager from the National Bank branch in Karachi displayed the ‘one-side blank’ Rs1000 currency notes issued by the State Bank of Pakistan (SBP).

The manager voiced his concerns, stating, “The cash that arrived this morning has bundles of misprinted Rs1,000 notes.”

He further elaborated, “One side of the notes is printed, and the other is completely blank,” expressing perplexity over the existence of such bills.

The issue came to light when a customer returned these misprinted currency notes to the bank staff.

Subsequently, upon inspecting the bundles of newly arrived notes, it was discovered that all Rs1,000 denomination notes were one-side blank.

In response to the incident, a spokesperson for the central bank stated that the matter has been forwarded to the relevant department for investigation and resolution.

This development raises concerns, particularly in the backdrop of previous reports highlighting the emergence of counterfeit Rs1,000 and Rs5,000 banknotes in Pakistan.

These counterfeits were remarkably accurate, to the extent that even officials from the State Bank of Pakistan (SBP) struggled to distinguish between genuine and fake currency notes.
