Govt sets Zakat Nisab at Rs179,689 for 2025

Zakat amount for 2025 in Pakistan

ISLAMABAD: The government has set the Nisab for Zakat for 2025 at Rs179,689, which will be deducted from savings accounts, profit and loss sharing accounts, and similar financial accounts.

The Zakat deduction is expected to take place on either March 1 or 2, 2025, depending on the sighting of the moon.

A notification was issued by the Ministry of Poverty Alleviation and Social Security on February 26, 2025, to inform the State Bank of Pakistan (SBP) and Zakat Collection Controlling Agencies about this decision. The Administrator General Zakat officially announced the Nisab amount.

According to the notification, no Zakat will be deducted from accounts with balances below Rs179,689 as of the first day of Ramazan-ul-Mubarak, 1446 A.H, which has been designated as the deduction date, likely falling on March 1 or 2, 2025.

The Zakat Collection Controlling Agencies (ZCCAs) have been directed to ensure the deduction is carried out as per the rules. Once the Zakat is deposited into the Central Zakat Account (CZ-08) held by the SBP, agencies are required to provide a copy of Form CZ-08 (A & B) to the ministry for records.

In comparison, last year, the Nisab for Zakat was set at Rs135,179 for 1444-45 A.H, while the year before that, it was Rs103,159.
