ISLAMABAD: The Islamabad Chamber of Commerce and Industry (ICCI) has called for direct flights between Pakistan and Indonesia to improve bilateral trade and investment relations.
This appeal was made on Sunday during a flag hoisting ceremony held at the Indonesian Embassy in Islamabad to mark Indonesia’s 79th Independence Day.
Zafar Bakhtawari, Secretary General of the United Business Group and former ICCI President, highlighted the importance of direct air connectivity between the two countries, noting that such a move would significantly strengthen existing relations and unlock tourism potential.
Bakhtawari also conveyed his congratulations to the Charge d’Affaires on behalf of the business community, expressing a strong commitment to fostering sustainable economic growth and social prosperity for both nations.
He emphasized the longstanding, cordial relations between Pakistan and Indonesia, underscored by shared religious, historical, and cultural ties. Bakhtawari also recalled Indonesia’s support for Pakistan during the 1965 and 1971 wars, expressing gratitude to the Indonesian leadership and people.
Noting Indonesia’s economic prowess, he remarked that it is currently the largest economy in ASEAN and the 13th largest globally, with predictions of becoming the world’s fourth-largest economy by 2045.
The event was attended by officials from the Indonesian Embassy, their families, and members of the Indonesian diaspora residing in various cities across Pakistan. Additionally, prominent religious leaders, business community representatives, think tank experts, and journalists were present to celebrate the occasion.
