ISLAMABAD: Pak Suzuki Motor Company Ltd (PSMCL) has announced its first price increase of 2025, raising the cost of its cars by up to Rs120,000.
The automaker appears to be capitalising on the success of the Suzuki Alto, which has consistently been the best-selling car in Pakistan’s auto market, leading not only the 660cc category but also the overall car segment, as evidenced by each Pakistan Automotive Manufacturers Association (PAMA) report.
In a notification released on February 24, the company revealed the revised prices for various Alto models. The price of the Alto VXR MT has been raised to Rs2.827 million from Rs2.707 million, while the Alto VXR AGS has increased to Rs2.989 million from Rs2.894 million.
The Alto VXL AGS now costs Rs3.240 million, up from Rs3.045 million. These hikes range from Rs95,000 to Rs120,000.
Pak Suzuki has attributed the price increases across all Alto variants to upgrades aimed at meeting customer expectations.
The price of the Suzuki Ravi, which has been on the market for over three decades with minimal changes, has also been increased. It now costs Rs1.956 million, up from Rs1.856 million, a rise of Rs100,000. Much like the discontinued Suzuki Mehran, the Ravi has seen only minor cosmetic updates over its lifetime.
The company stated that these changes, or “upgrades”, are intended to enhance safety and comfort, ensuring that their products continue to excel in quality and reliability.
Only time will tell how consumers react to these changes, and whether sales will be impacted by the price hike. For now, it seems the increase will have little effect on loyal Suzuki buyers, who continue to favour the Alto for its reliability, fuel efficiency, and strong resale value.
It is important to note that demand for cars typically rises in the lead-up to Eidul Fitr. Between July and January of FY25, Suzuki Alto 660 sales rose to 24,633 units, compared to 16,388 units during the same period the previous year.
Consumers also favour the Alto for auto financing, as the State Bank’s financing cap is set at Rs3 million.
Pak Suzuki sold 3,177 units of the Suzuki Ravi in the first seven months of FY25, up from 1,733 units during the same period in FY24.
The recent trend of price hikes in the vehicle market has re-emerged despite the stabilisation of the rupee-dollar exchange rate for over a year.
