Pakistan, Azerbaijan discuss bilateral investment opportunities in Baku


ISLAMABAD: Abdul Aleem Khan, the Federal Minister for Board of Investment, Privatisation, and Communications, along with his delegation, met with Israfel Mammadov, the CEO of the State Oil Fund of Azerbaijan, in Baku. The discussions focused on various topics aimed at enhancing bilateral investment and business activities between Pakistan and Azerbaijan.

Following a three-day visit to Morocco, Minister Abdul Aleem Khan arrived in Baku. During the meeting, he said Azerbaijan holds a unique and cherished position in the hearts of the Pakistani people, and he noted that the friendly relations between the two countries are advancing towards greater strength and enhancement.

He also recognised the pivotal contribution of Azerbaijan’s Ambassador to Pakistan, Khazar Farhadov, in fostering these relations, which has recently fostered a very positive atmosphere.

Minister Khan further announced the establishment of the Pakistan-Azerbaijan Joint Chamber of Commerce in Islamabad and outlined plans to set up Exhibition Centres to provide a platform for investors to effectively showcase their products. This initiative is expected to bolster imports and exports for both nations.

In his dialogue with the State Oil Fund (SOFAZ) of Azerbaijan regarding business opportunities, he said the partnership between the two countries is entering a new and promising phase, particularly benefiting Pakistan. He further added that Azerbaijan had the potential to invest in Pakistan’s communications sector, specifically in the development of motorways in Sindh, including Karachi, which would facilitate Pakistan’s connection with Central Asian nations.

Khan and his delegation received a warm welcome from Rovshanf Najaf, President of SOCAR, and Israfil Mammadov, CEO of the State Oil Fund, who assured them of their full support. Additionally, the delegation included the Chairman of the State Investment Fund Corporation (SIFC), Federal Secretaries, and the Chairman of the National Highway Authority (NHA).
