ISLAMABAD: Pakistan Railways has reported revenue exceeding Rs40 billion in the first half of the current fiscal year (H1 FY24), as disclosed by Minister for Law and Justice, Azam Nazeer Tarar, during a Senate session on Wednesday.

Minister Tarar highlighted that the revenue of Pakistan Railways saw a significant increase, reaching Rs63.25 billion in the previous fiscal year (FY23). Despite this financial upturn, he stressed the importance of curtailing non-development expenditures to ensure sustainable growth.

“Pakistan Railways is a crucial national institution,” Tarar remarked, underscoring the necessity for improvements in the railway infrastructure, particularly the tracks. He underscored the government’s commitment to enhancing the quality and safety of railway services.

Addressing a supplementary question, Minister Tarar noted a consistent decrease in rail accidents over recent years, attributing this improvement to ongoing safety measures and upgrades.

Additionally, the Minister informed the Senate about several upcoming projects aimed at enhancing transportation facilities in the federal capital.

These projects include not only the Metro Bus service from Saddar to Pak Secretariat but also the initiation of three new public transport routes, operational since 2022, to better serve the residents of Islamabad.
