Pakistan Railways eyes Rs80 billion in revenue

WEB DESK: Pakistan Railways (PR) has witnessed an unprecedented increase in revenue during the first eight months of the financial year 2023–24, reaching a historic milestone of Rs50 billion.

CEO Aamir Baloch shared that this achievement reflects substantial growth compared to last year’s earnings of Rs32 billion.

Commending the dedicated efforts of PR’s workforce, Baloch expressed optimism that the revenue is set to further increase, potentially reaching Rs80 billion by the end of FY 2023–24.

According to The News, the CEO highlighted the crucial role played by committed employees in attaining this significant financial feat.

In other developments, PR is in the final stages of a plan to procure 230 passenger coaches and 820 high-capacity waggons under the Public Sector Development Programme (PSDP).

This move aims to enhance train speed and ensure adherence to fixed schedules.

An official from the Ministry of Railways provided details on the procurement process, stating, “Out of the total, around 46 Completely-Built-Up (CBU) passenger coaches have been procured up till now while the remaining 184 would be manufactured in the country and the coaches would be able to travel at the speed of 160km/h.”

The ongoing initiatives are expected to not only boost revenue but also enhance the overall travel experience for passengers throughout the country.
