PSX stays in green as KSE-100 gains nearly 600 points

KARACHI: The Pakistan Stock Exchange (PSX) maintained a positive trend on the second-last trading day of the month, with the benchmark KSE-100 index gaining 513.59 points, reaching 114,375.91 as of 9:33 AM. At that point, the trading volume stood at 10,952,329 shares.

Since the start of the session, the stock market has fluctuated but has remained in the green throughout the day, avoiding negative territory. By 11:45 AM, the lowest point recorded was 113,878.23, still up by 15.91 points. Around 11:00 AM, the trading volume had increased to 69,074,487 shares.

The PSX saw further upward momentum, with the index standing at 114,407.65, up by 545.33 points at 11:36 AM. Just a few minutes later, at 11:40 AM, the KSE-100 index reached a new high for the day, gaining 594.59 points to 114,456.91.

Intraday losers

Several companies in the KSE-100 index were trading in the red, recording losses. Nestle Pakistan Limited (NESTLE) was down by 1 per cent or Rs73.02 to Rs7,260.98. Mehmood Textile Mills Limited (MEHT) dropped by 10 per cent or Rs50.11 to Rs450.95. Packages Limited (PKGS) declined by 2.02 per cent or Rs10.98 to Rs533.02, while JDW Sugar Mills Limited (JDWS) slipped by 0.49 per cent or Rs4.01 to Rs816.00. Kohinoor Textile Mills Limited was down by 1.56 per cent or Rs2.61 to Rs164.98.

Intraday gainers

On the other hand, several companies were trading in the green with gains. Unilever Pakistan Foods Limited (UPFL) rose by 0.75 per cent or Rs173.95 to Rs23,498.92. Pakistan Services Limited (PSEL) climbed 2.13 per cent or Rs22.99 to Rs1,103, and Service Industries Limited (SRVI) increased by 1.32 per cent or Rs19.94 to Rs1,529.94. Lucky Core Industries Limited (LCI) edged up by 0.51 per cent or Rs6.18 to Rs1,230.50, while Pakistan Tobacco Company Limited (PAKT) gained 0.24 per cent or Rs2.98 to reach Rs1,233.00.

In the previous trading session on Wednesday, the KSE-100 index closed at 113,862.32, down by 665.76 points or 0.58 per cent. The index traded in a range of 912.99 points, with an intraday high of 114,762.92 (up by 234.84 points) and a low of 113,849.93 (down by 678.15 points).

Market overview

Over the past year, the KSE-100 index has seen an 80.96 per cent gain. However, the stock market is currently down by 0.63 per cent in year-to-date (YTD) terms. The PSX has traded within a 52-week range of 63,042.15 and 118,735.10.
