Intraday trade: Pakistani rupee gains 11 paisa against dollar

KARACHI: The Pakistani rupee (PKR) strengthened by 11 paisa against the US dollar (USD) on Thursday, as exchange companies quoted the dollar at Rs280.10 before 10:00 AM.

At the time of writing, the Pakistan Stock Exchange’s (PSX) KSE-100 index was also up by 1,333.89 points, or 1.13 per cent, reaching 119,307.91.

Looking at the rupee’s performance, it is important to note that during the current fiscal year, the Pakistani rupee has lost Rs1.87, or 0.67 per cent, against the US dollar. Since the start of 2025, it has weakened by Rs1.66, or 0.59 per cent.

Previous PKR close

As per the State Bank of Pakistan (SBP), the rupee gained 6.15 paisa, or 0.02 per cent, against the US dollar during Wednesday’s interbank trading, closing at Rs280.21 compared to Rs280.27 the previous day. During the session, the rupee reached an intraday high of Rs280.30 and a low of Rs280.20.

Exchange companies reported the dollar at Rs280.50 for buying and Rs282.10 for selling.

PKR’s performance against other currencies

Japanese Yen: The rupee fell by 0.77 paisa, or 0.41 per cent, closing at Rs1.8775 compared to Rs1.8698 a day earlier.

Saudi Riyal: The rupee rose by 2.04 paisa, or 0.03 per cent, to Rs74.71.

Euro: The rupee appreciated by Rs1.41, or 0.46 per cent, closing at Rs305.22 compared to Rs306.63 previously.

UAE Dirham: The rupee gained 2.30 paisa, or 0.03 per cent, closing at Rs76.29.

British Pound: The rupee rose by 78.06 paisa, or 0.21 per cent, closing at Rs363.43, compared to Rs364.21 the previous day.

Chinese Yuan: The rupee strengthened by 7.31 paisa, or 0.19 per cent, closing at Rs38.72 compared to Rs38.79.

Swiss Franc: The rupee weakened by 94.62 paisa, or 0.30 per cent, to close at Rs319.40.
