Intraday trade: PKR gains 10 paisa against USD

KARACHI: On the penultimate trading day of the month, the Pakistani rupee (PKR) appreciated by 10 paisa or 0.04 per cent against the US dollar (USD) in the initial trading hours on Thursday.
According to currency exchange companies, the US dollar was quoted at Rs278.77 against the local currency in the interbank market.
During the current fiscal year, the PKR has declined against the US dollar by 53.16 paisa or 0.19 per cent. Since the start of the calendar year 2025, it has depreciated by 32.28 paisa or 0.12 per cent.
Previous closing
The PKR strengthened by 5.22 paisa or 0.02 per cent against the US dollar during Wednesday’s interbank session, closing the day at Rs278.87 per USD, compared to the previous closing of Rs278.93.
In the open market, currency exchange companies quoted the dollar at Rs279 to Rs279.50 for buying and Rs281.00 for selling.
PKR’s performance against other currencies
In comparison to other foreign currencies, the Pakistani rupee showed the following movements on January 29:
The PKR strengthened by 0.72 paisa or 0.02 per cent against the Chinese Yuan, closing at Rs38.46, compared to Rs38.47 the previous day.
It appreciated by 1.49 paisa or 0.02 per cent against the Saudi Riyal, reaching Rs74.35.
The local currency also strengthened by 1.43 paisa or 0.02 per cent against the UAE Dirham, closing at Rs75.93.
Against the Japanese Yen, the PKR weakened by 0.36 paisa or 0.20 per cent, closing the session at Rs1.7958 from Rs1.7922 a day earlier.
The PKR depreciated by 18.04 paisa or 0.06 per cent against the Swiss Franc, closing at Rs308.04.
It strengthened by 47.27 paisa or 0.16 per cent against the Euro, closing at Rs290.56 compared to Rs291.03.
Against the British Pound, the PKR fell by 22.79 paisa or 0.07 per cent, settling at Rs347.25 compared to Rs347.02 a day earlier.
