PKR posts slight gain against USD in interbank market

KARACHI: The Pakistani rupee recorded a marginal gain against the US dollar during intra-day trading on Monday, appreciating by 0.02 per cent in the interbank market.
By 10:00 AM, the local currency was trading at Rs280.92, up by 5 paisa from the previous closing rate.
Last week, the rupee had lost Re0.25, or 0.09 per cent, against the dollar in the interbank market, continuing its gradual weakening trend.
On the international front, the US dollar started the week on a steady note as investors awaited a series of economic data releases, expected to provide early indications of the impact of President Donald Trump’s trade policies.
Since the beginning of the current fiscal year, the rupee has depreciated by Rs2.63, or 0.94 per cent, against the dollar. From the start of the 2025 calendar year, it has weakened by Rs2.42, or 0.86 per cent.
PKR’s weekly performance against major currencies
On Friday, the rupee appreciated by 9.95 paisa, or 0.04 per cent, against the dollar, settling at Rs280.97 compared to the previous day’s close of Rs281.07. Throughout the session, it traded between an intraday high (bid) of Rs281.15 and a low (ask) of Rs280.95.
In the open market, the dollar was quoted at Rs280.50 for buying and Rs282.75 for selling.
Against other major currencies, the rupee showed the following movements:
Gained 2.65 paisa, or 0.04 per cent, against the Saudi Riyal, closing at Rs74.90.
Rose by 1.33 paisa, or 0.67 per cent, against the Japanese Yen, ending the day at Rs1.9589, compared to Rs1.9722 previously.
Strengthened by Rs1.08, or 0.34 per cent, against the Euro, closing at Rs318.99 from Rs320.07.
Improved by 34.30 paisa, or 0.09 per cent, against the British Pound, reaching Rs373.48 from Rs373.82.
Appreciated by 2.81 paisa, or 0.04 per cent, against the UAE Dirham to close at Rs76.49.
However, it weakened by 3.05 paisa, or 0.08 per cent, against the Chinese Yuan, settling at Rs38.56 compared to Rs38.53.
Gained Rs2.15, or 0.63 per cent, against the Swiss Franc, closing at Rs338.01.
