Pakistani rupee registers marginal gain against dollar

ISLAMABAD: The Pakistani rupee appreciated by 9 paisa against the US dollar in the interbank market on Wednesday and closed at Rs281.13.

According to the State Bank of Pakistan (SBP), the rupee appreciated 0.03 per cent against the US dollar as the local currency had closed at Rs281.22 on January 9.

International oil prices stabilising on Wednesday heavily contributed to the appreciation of the rupee.

Separately, the fluctuations in gold prices continued on Wednesday, as gold became cheaper in the local market on the third day after a decline in the international bullion market.

Gold price dropped by Rs300 in the local market on Wednesday to settle at Rs216,100 per tola, according to the All Pakistan Gem and Jewellers Associ­ation.
