Intraday trade: PKR gains one paisa against USD

KARACHI: The Pakistani rupee (PKR) experienced a slight improvement against the US dollar (USD), appreciating by 0.04 per cent during early trading hours in the interbank market on Wednesday.

Before 10 AM, the rupee was trading at Rs279.85, gaining one paisa against the greenback.

Since the start of the current fiscal year, the PKR has weakened by Rs1.73 or 0.62 per cent against the dollar. In 2025 alone, it has depreciated by Rs1.52 or 0.54 per cent.

Globally, the US dollar lingered near a five-month low against major currencies on Wednesday, amid ongoing concerns about the US economy under President Donald Trump’s unpredictable trade policies.

Here’s how the rupee performed against other foreign currencies on the previous trading day:

The rupee decreased by 10.09 paisa or 0.04 per cent against the US dollar in Monday’s interbank session, closing at Rs280.07 compared to the previous close of Rs279.97.

In the open market, exchange companies quoted the dollar at Rs279.20 for buying and Rs281.75 for selling.

Against the Chinese yuan, the rupee rose by 7.68 paisa or 0.20 per cent, closing at Rs38.56 compared to Rs38.63.

Against the British pound, the rupee gained 22.00 paisa or 0.06 per cent, closing at Rs361.01 compared to Rs361.23 the day before.

The rupee decreased by 2.74 paisa or 0.04 per cent against the UAE dirham, closing at Rs76.26.

Against the Saudi riyal, the rupee weakened by 1.89 paisa or 0.03 per cent, ending at Rs74.65.

The rupee strengthened by 11.48 paisa or 0.04 per cent against the euro, closing at Rs303.13, up from Rs303.25.

The rupee’s value against the Japanese yen fell by 0.30 paisa or 0.16 per cent, closing at Rs1.8988 compared to Rs1.8958.

Lastly, the rupee dropped by 34.97 paisa or 0.11 per cent against the Swiss franc, closing at Rs318.39.
