Intraday trade: PKR gains 20 paisa against USD

KARACHI: The Pakistani rupee (PKR) appreciated by 20 paisa against the US dollar (USD) in early trading on Thursday, the second last trading day of the week. Currency exchange companies quoted the dollar at Rs280.77.
During the current fiscal year, the rupee has depreciated by Rs2.63 or 0.93 per cent against the greenback. Since the start of calendar year 2025, it has declined by Rs2.42 or 0.86 per cent.
On the equities front, the Pakistan Stock Exchange (PSX) opened in the red. The benchmark KSE-100 index dropped by 1,146 points, or 0.98 per cent, to 116,079 at around 10:18 AM.
Earlier in the session, the market experienced a steeper fall, plunging by over 2,564 points to 114,661.2 at around 9:34 AM, with trading volumes recorded at 6,625,850.

On Wednesday, the rupee had weakened by 19.85 paisa or 0.07 per cent in the interbank market, closing at Rs280.97 per USD compared to the previous close of Rs280.77.
In the open market, exchange companies quoted the dollar at Rs280.50 for buying and Rs282.40 for selling.
Performance against other foreign currencies
The rupee slipped 5.89 paisa or 0.08 per cent against the Saudi Riyal, closing at Rs74.90.
It declined 12.14 paisa or 0.32 per cent against the Chinese Yuan, ending at Rs38.52 from Rs38.39.
Against the British Pound, the rupee appreciated by Rs1.65 or 0.44 per cent, settling at Rs373.90 compared to Rs375.54 a day earlier.
PKR also gained Rs2.88 or 0.89 per cent against the Euro, closing at Rs319.91 versus the previous Rs322.79.
The local unit surged by Rs4.68 or 1.35 per cent against the Swiss Franc, closing at Rs341.54.
It fell by 5.51 paisa or 0.07 per cent against the UAE Dirham to Rs76.49.
Against the Japanese Yen, the rupee strengthened by 1.94 paisa or 0.97 per cent, closing at Rs1.9805 compared to Rs1.9999 a day ago.
