Intraday trade: PKR gains 8 paisa against US dollar

KARACHI: The Pakistani rupee (PKR) registered a slight improvement against the US dollar (USD), appreciating by 0.03 per cent in the interbank market during early trading on Monday.

In the morning session, the PKR was trading at Rs278.48, gaining eight paisa against the greenback.

Last week’s performance

Last week, the PKR saw a marginal decline against the USD, losing nine paisa or 0.03 per cent in the interbank market.

Since the start of the current fiscal year, the PKR has depreciated against the USD by 22.04 paisa or 0.08 per cent. It has also depreciated by 1.16 paisa since the beginning of 2025.

On Friday, the PKR appreciated by 8.07 paisa or 0.03 per cent against the USD, closing at Rs278.56 compared to the previous day’s close of Rs278.64.

Performance against other currencies

Japanese Yen (JPY): The PKR appreciated by 0.48 paisa or 0.27 per cent on Friday, closing the week at Rs1.7723 compared to Rs1.7771 on Thursday.

British Pound (GBP): The PKR gained Rs3.33 or 0.96 per cent, closing at Rs345.56 compared to Rs348.89 a day earlier.

Saudi Riyal (SAR): The PKR appreciated by 2.34 paisa or 0.03 per cent, trading at Rs74.18.

Euro (EUR): The PKR gained Rs2.31 or 0.80 per cent, closing at Rs286.57 compared to the previous close of Rs288.88.

UAE Dirham (AED): The PKR strengthened by 2.19 paisa or 0.03 per cent, closing at Rs75.84.

Chinese Yuan (CNY): The PKR gained 5.97 paisa or 0.16 per cent, closing at Rs38.11 compared to Rs38.17.

Swiss Franc (CHF): The PKR appreciated by Rs1.95 or 0.63 per cent, closing at Rs306.06.
