Weekly exchange rate summary: PKR fluctuates modestly


Pakistani rupee weekly performance report

ISLAMABAD: The Pakistani rupee (PKR) showed relatively stable performance this week, with minor fluctuations in its value against the US dollar (USD) and other major currencies.

Below is a day-by-day breakdown of how the rupee performed this week:

Monday 

The PKR depreciated by 13.38 paisa or 0.05 per cent against the greenback, closing at PKR 278.7 per USD compared to the previous session’s PKR 278.57.

In the major currency market, the Saudi Riyal appreciated slightly, rising by 4.75 paisa to close at 74.26 from 74.21. The UAE Dirham also increased by 3.64 paisa, moving from 75.88 to 75.84.

The PKR, however, strengthened against the Euro, appreciating by 1.37 rupees to close at 308.21, down from 309.58. The British Pound also dropped in value by 1.97 rupees, closing at 365.22 compared to the prior value of 367.19. The Swiss franc saw a decline of 1.44 rupees, ending at 329.37, while the Chinese Yuan depreciated by 12.96 paisa, closing at 39.19. The Japanese Yen lost 0.74 paisa, closing at 1.9475 against PKR.

Tuesday 

On Tuesday, the PKR gained slightly against the US dollar, appreciating by 8.05 paisa or 0.03 per cent, settling at PKR 278.62 per USD.

Among other currencies, the Saudi Riyal appreciated by 1.22 paisa, closing at 74.27 from 74.26. The UAE Dirham, on the other hand, lost 2.19 paisa, ending at 75.88 compared to 75.86.

Against the Euro, the PKR continued to strengthen, gaining 70.2 paisa to close at 307.51. The British Pound also became slightly cheaper, falling by 46.77 paisa to end at 364.75. The Swiss franc saw further losses, decreasing by 1.14 rupees to close at 328.23. The Chinese Yuan dipped by 5.95 paisa, closing at 39.13, while the Japanese Yen dropped by 0.8 paisa, ending the session at 1.9395.

Wednesday 

On Wednesday, the rupee appreciated again by 7.72 paisa, bringing the exchange rate to PKR 278.54 per USD.

In the major currency market, the Saudi Riyal lost 3.44 paisa, closing at 74.23, while the UAE Dirham decreased by 1.9 paisa to close at 75.86.

The PKR remained stable against the Euro, closing unchanged at 307.51. The British Pound continued its decline, losing 40.75 paisa to settle at 364.35. The Swiss franc gained some ground, appreciating by 1.07 rupees to close at 329.3. The Chinese Yuan rose by 2.96 paisa, closing at 39.16, while the Japanese Yen gained 3.1 paisa, ending at 1.9705.

Thursday 

The PKR saw further appreciation on Thursday, gaining 10 paisa to close at PKR 278.44 per USD.

Among other currencies, the Saudi Riyal decreased by 3.66 paisa, closing at 74.2. The UAE Dirham lost 2.72 paisa, closing at 75.84.

Against the Euro, the PKR gained 1.04 rupees, closing at 306.47, while the British Pound dropped by 1.41 rupees to settle at 362.94. The Swiss franc lost 3.43 rupees, ending at 325.87. The Chinese Yuan decreased by 7.07 paisa, closing at 39.09, while the Japanese Yen appreciated by 1.82 paisa to close at 1.9523.

Friday

The PKR gained 27.83 paisa or 0.10 per cent against the greenback in Friday’s interbank session to settle the trade at PKR 278.16 per USD, compared to last closing rate of 278.44.
