Pakistan’s garment exports to China up 5 per cent in 2024

ISLAMABAD: Pakistan’s exports of men’s and women’s garments to China rose by 5 per cent in 2024, the General Administration of Customs of China (GACC) revealed on Tuesday.

According to the Associated Press of Pakistan (APP), Pakistan garment exports reached over $18.03 million in the initial seven months, as reported by the General Administration of Customs of China (GACC).

The Commercial Counsellor at the Pakistani embassy in Beijing, Ghulam Qadir, credited the increase to the better quality and competitive pricing of Pakistani garments.

He credited the benefits of Pakistan’s favourable land trade routes with China and the zero-tariff advantages provided by the China-Pakistan Free Trade Agreement (CPFTA).

In the first seven months of 2024, Pakistan exported $13.10 million worth of men’s wear and $4.93 million in women’s clothing to China. This marks an increase from the same timeframe last year, which saw exports of men’s wear at $12.65 million and women’s clothing at $4.66 million.

For reference, men’s wear exports to China were $28.66 million in 2023, $28.65 million in 2022, and $21.62 million in 2021, indicating a 6 per cent rise this year. Women’s trousers contributed approximately $3 million in exports during the stated time-period.

Qadir also announced that a major contingent from Pakistan’s textile industry will be present at the China International Import Expo (CIIE 2024), showcasing a fashion presentation with Pakistani models.

A sizable Chinese delegation is also expected at “Texpo,” a prominent textile and leather fair organised by the Trade Development Authority of Pakistan (TDAP) in Karachi in October.
