Between July 2023 and April 2024, Pakistan exported onions worth more than $210 million. This is a significant increase compared to previous years.

The spokesperson expressed confidence that by the end of the year, onion exports would reach $250 million, setting a new record.

One factor contributing to this success is the ban on Indian onion exports, which has opened up new markets for Pakistani onions, particularly in regions like the Middle East.

Pakistani onions are now available in top global stores, indicating their increasing popularity and demand.

The spokesperson said that there was a need for an “immediate government action” to improve the shelf life of onions.

This could potentially lead to the development of new markets in the future.
