GUJRANWALA: Minister for Planning, Development and Special Initiatives Ahsan Iqbal has reaffirmed the government’s commitment to supporting Pakistan’s exporters, expressing hope that the country’s annual exports could reach $100 billion within the next eight years through a united business front.

Speaking at the Gujranwala Expo 2025 in Islamabad on Friday, Iqbal said the government was working actively to address the challenges faced by exporters and create a trade-friendly environment. “The faster our exports grow, the quicker we can tackle the country’s broader economic challenges,” he said, adding that exporters bringing in the highest foreign exchange would be honoured as national heroes.

He praised the Gujranwala Chamber of Commerce and Industry (GCCI) for organising the three-day event, noting the city’s long-standing reputation for craftsmanship and industrial excellence. He said Gujranwala had the potential to emerge as Pakistan’s top export cluster.

Held at a local hotel, the Gujranwala Expo 2025 is aimed at promoting local products, boosting exports, and reducing the country’s reliance on imports by strengthening domestic industries. More than 50 stalls have been set up at the exhibition, featuring a wide range of goods such as home appliances, sanitary products, edibles, cosmetics, cutlery, LED lights, garments, plastic items, paints, and electrical equipment.

Iqbal encouraged the business community to adopt digital platforms and e-commerce tools to connect with international markets, saying it was essential for making “Made in Pakistan” a globally recognised label. He highlighted the exceptional skill and potential of Gujranwala’s industries, urging local businesses to leverage their strengths for global reach.

The expo, which runs from April 11 to 13, was officially inaugurated by Haroon Akhtar Khan, the Special Assistant to the Prime Minister on Industries. The event was attended by senior government officials, industry leaders, traders, and members of the business community.

The GCCI’s B2B trade fair serves as a platform for industry players and innovators to network, showcase quality products, and explore emerging market trends.
