KP govt allocates Rs1 billion for Peshawar BRT operations

Peshawar BRT

WEB DESK: The Khyber Pakhtunkhwa (KP) government has allocated a budget of Rs1 billion to TransPeshawar for operating the Peshawar BRT service from November 2023 to February 2024.

Funds were swiftly disbursed to cover ongoing operational costs and settle outstanding payments to BRT service providers, as stated in a press release issued last Friday.

Contrary to recent rumours, there is no truth to the speculations about the service closing due to funding issues. TransPeshawar remains dedicated to providing public transportation services to the people of Peshawar.

Zafarullah Khan, Special Assistant to the Chief Minister for Transport and Housing, emphasised the vital importance of uninterrupted BRT operations, noting, “Zu Peshawar currently serves an impressive 300,000 passengers daily.”

He highlighted that any disruption or closure, even for a short period, would significantly impact the lives of Peshawar’s residents and the city’s socio-economic fabric.
