Pharma export from Pakistan

ISLAMABAD: Pakistan’s pharmaceutical industry has achieved its highest export earnings in two decades, crossing the $457 million mark with an impressive 34 percent growth, officials revealed at the 8th Pakistan Pharma Summit held at Serena Hotel.

The milestone was announced during the event, which brought together industry leaders, international experts, and policymakers to discuss the sector’s future. The summit was followed by the Pharma Export Awards Ceremony, where the country’s top 50 exporters were honoured for their role in boosting the economy and carrying Pakistan’s name to global markets.

SAPM vows government support

Special Assistant to the Prime Minister on Industries and Production, Haroon Akhtar Khan, attended as the chief guest. In his address, he described the pharmaceutical sector as a vital pillar of Pakistan’s economy and an essential source of healthcare for the country’s 250 million citizens.

“The government stands firmly with the pharmaceutical industry,” Khan told participants. “Our policies are designed to strengthen the sector while ensuring affordable and quality medicines remain available to the people.”

Khan underlined that regulatory reforms and industrial policy remain key to shaping Pakistan’s economic future. He noted that the recent surge in exports reflects not only international demand for Pakistani products but also the resilience of local manufacturers.

Awards celebrate industry’s role

At the Export Awards ceremony, Khan lauded pharmaceutical exporters as “Pakistan’s ambassadors,” praising their efforts in promoting the country’s image abroad while supporting economic stability at home.

The recognition highlighted the industry’s dual contribution: generating foreign exchange and positioning Pakistan as a reliable player in the global healthcare market.

Building global partnerships

The SAPM also pointed to the importance of international collaboration, stressing that the participation of foreign experts at the summit would open new avenues for partnerships. He urged the sector to adopt global best practices and higher standards, which he said would help Pakistani pharmaceuticals compete more effectively worldwide.

“Pakistan has the potential to secure a prominent place in the global healthcare market,” Khan remarked, voicing confidence in the industry’s ability to sustain growth.

Future outlook

The 34 percent jump in exports stands as one of the most encouraging signs for the country’s industrial landscape this year. Experts at the summit noted that the achievement reflects not just government support but also the growing global trust in Pakistan’s pharmaceutical products.

With stronger policies, recognition for leading exporters, and a renewed focus on international partnerships, industry leaders believe the momentum can be sustained. Many see this milestone as the start of a new phase for the sector, one where Pakistan could emerge as a significant supplier of medicines and healthcare solutions to international markets.
