Pakistani rupee gains 7 paisa against US dollar in early trade

KARACHI: The Pakistani rupee (PKR) registered a marginal increase against the US dollar (USD), appreciating by 0.04 per cent during the opening hours of trading in the interbank market on Thursday.
In the morning, the Pakistani currency was hovering at Rs278.05, a gain of 12 paisa against the greenback.
Since the start of 2024, the PKR has strengthened by 1.33 per cent or Rs3.69. In the current fiscal year, the PKR has risen against the USD by 17.30 paisa or 0.06 per cent.
Previous closing
The PKR decreased by 11.82 paisa or 0.04 per cent against the USD in Wednesday’s interbank session, settling at Rs278.17 per USD compared to the previous closing of Rs278.05.
Performance against other foreign currencies
On the previous trading day (Wednesday), the PKR’s performance compared to other currencies was as follows:
Against the British Pound, the PKR decreased by 17.85 paisa or 0.05 per cent to Rs354.48 compared to Rs354.31 a day earlier.
The PKR strengthened by Rs1.09 or 0.37 per cent against the Euro, closing at Rs292.12 compared to the previous value of Rs293.20.
The local unit gained Rs1.78 or 0.56 per cent against the Swiss franc, closing at Rs314.44.
Against the Japanese Yen, the PKR strengthened by 0.74 paisa or 0.40 per cent, closing at Rs1.8256 compared to Rs1.8330 a day earlier.
The Pakistani rupee increased by 10.24 paisa or 0.27 per cent against the Chinese Yuan, closing at Rs38.25 compared to Rs38.35.
The PKR depreciated by 3.11 paisa or 0.04 per cent against the UAE Dirham, closing at Rs75.73.
The local currency fell by 0.78 paisa or 0.01 per cent against the Saudi Riyal, closing at Rs74.02.

The Pakistani rupee has made a notable recovery this calendar year, rebounding from its position as one of Asia’s worst-performing currencies last year.
