Intraday trade: PKR gains 12 paisa against USD

KARACHI: The Pakistani rupee (PKR) gained 12 paisa against the US dollar (USD) during early trading on Thursday.

According to currency exchange companies, the USD was priced at Rs279.50 in the interbank market.

PKR’s fiscal and calendar year performance

Since the start of the current fiscal year, the PKR has depreciated by Rs1.27 or 0.46 per cent against the USD. Additionally, since the beginning of the 2025 calendar year, it has weakened by Rs1.07 or 0.38 per cent.

Previous SBP closing

According to the State Bank of Pakistan (SBP), on Wednesday, the PKR strengthened by 5.63 paisa, or 0.02 per cent, against the USD in the interbank market, closing at Rs279.62 compared to Rs279.67 on Tuesday.

In the open market on Wednesday, foreign exchange companies quoted the dollar at Rs279.50 for buying and Rs281.50 for selling.

PKR’s performance against other foreign currencies

The PKR strengthened by 1.90 paisa, or 0.03 per cent, against the Saudi Riyal, closing at Rs74.56.

It weakened by 3.71 paisa, or 0.10 per cent, against the Chinese Yuan, closing at Rs38.54.

Against the British Pound, the PKR depreciated by 83.77 paisa, or 0.24 per cent, closing at Rs353.90 compared to Rs353.06 on Tuesday.

The PKR appreciated by 1.53 paisa, or 0.02 per cent, against the UAE Dirham, closing at Rs76.13.

It fell by 75.19 paisa, or 0.26 per cent, against the Euro, closing at Rs293.62 compared to Rs292.87.

The PKR weakened by 96.61 paisa, or 0.31 per cent, against the Swiss Franc, closing at Rs312.80.

Against the Japanese Yen, the PKR lost 0.33 paisa, or 0.18 per cent, to close at Rs1.8717 compared to Rs1.8684 on Tuesday.
