Intraday trading: PKR 14 paisa up against USD

KARACHI: The Pakistani rupee (PKR) made a marginal gain against the US dollar (USD), rising by 0.05 per cent in the interbank market during early trading on Thursday.
In the morning session, the PKR was trading at 278.63 against the US dollar, reflecting a modest increase of 14 paisa.
Performance in the previous session
On Wednesday, the rupee had depreciated by 6.68 paisa, or 0.02 per cent, closing the day at 278.77 against the US dollar, down from the previous close of 278.70, according to data from the State Bank of Pakistan (SBP).

– British Pound: The rupee strengthened slightly, with the pound dropping by 5.18 paisa, closing at 365.67 compared to 365.72 a day earlier.
– Euro: PKR gained 10.74 paisa, with the euro closing at 308.08, down from 308.19 the previous day.
– Saudi Riyal: The rupee edged up by 0.79 paisa, with the Riyal closing at 74.27.
– Swiss Franc: The PKR gained 1.73 rupees, with the franc closing at 328.41, up from 326.67.
– UAE Dirham: The rupee saw a minor improvement of 1.82 paisa, with the Dirham closing at 75.88.
– Japanese Yen: PKR lost ground, declining by 1.18 paisa, ending the day at 1.9209.
– Chinese Yuan: The rupee gained 2.68 paisa, closing at 39.19 compared to 39.16.
Overall performance this year
Since the start of the financial year, the PKR has depreciated by 0.15 per cent, or 42.56 paisa, against the US dollar. However, on a calendar-year basis, the rupee has appreciated by 1.11 per cent, gaining 3.09 rupees against the dollar.
