PKR remains stable against USD in interbank trading

KARACHI: The Pakistani rupee (PKR) remained stable against the US dollar (USD) during the early hours of trading in the interbank market on Friday, maintaining its previous level of Rs280.05.

The rupee had closed at the same rate on Thursday.

Internationally, the US dollar strengthened broadly on Friday, while the euro continued to retreat from a five-month peak as global markets faced escalating trade tensions and concerns over a potential economic downturn.

During the current fiscal year, the PKR has depreciated by Rs1.71 or 0.61 per cent against the USD. Since the start of the calendar year 2025, it has weakened by Rs1.50 or 0.54 per cent.

According to the State Bank of Pakistan (SBP), the rupee lost 8.11 paisa or 0.03 per cent against the dollar during Thursday’s interbank session, closing at Rs280.05 compared to the previous close of Rs279.97.

In the open market, exchange companies quoted the dollar at Rs280.20 for buying and Rs281.75 for selling.

Here’s how the rupee performed against other major currencies om Thursday:

Against the Saudi riyal, the rupee declined by 1.57 paisa or 0.02 per cent, closing at Rs74.67.

PKR appreciated by Rs1.26 or 0.41 per cent against the euro, closing at Rs304.43, compared to the previous value of Rs305.69.

Against the British pound, the rupee declined by 51.10 paisa or 0.14 per cent to Rs362.82 from Rs362.31 a day earlier.

The rupee fell by 32.62 paisa or 0.10 per cent against the Swiss franc, ending at Rs317.81.

Against the Japanese yen, the rupee dropped by 0.80 paisa or 0.42 per cent, closing at Rs1.8948 compared to Rs1.8868 the previous day.

PKR depreciated by 2.31 paisa or 0.03 per cent against the UAE dirham, closing at Rs76.25.

The rupee also weakened by 1.04 paisa or 0.03 per cent against the Chinese yuan, closing at Rs38.67 from Rs38.66.
