KARACHI: Sindh Chief Minister Syed Murad Ali Shah and Federal Minister for National Food Security & Research, Rana Tanveer, convened at the New Sindh Secretariat to explore several significant initiatives. Among these was the establishment of an industrial park on land owned by Pakistan Steel Mills (PSM), plans for reviving the steel mill, and the creation of a National Food Safety, Animal, and Plant Health Regulatory Authority.
In their discussions, they focused on repurposing 3,200 acres of PSM land, currently registered under Pakistan Steel Mills Limited (PSML), for industrial use. Minister Tanveer proposed that the land designation be officially changed to allow for this new purpose. It was mutually agreed that the federal ministry would formally submit a request for this change, enabling the Sindh government to move forward with the necessary documentation.
CM Murad Ali Shah pointed out that the 1,675 acres allocated to PSML in 1974-75 for the steel project still do not have a formal title transfer. He pledged to address this issue. Furthermore, he stressed the importance of reserving 700 acres for either revitalizing the existing steel mill or constructing a new facility. Minister Tanveer revealed that a team from Russia had inspected the current plant and would announce a proposal for a new plant installation by February.
