WEB DESK: Innovation knows no bound as in a bid to curb rising cash-snatching incidents, Karachi-South Police have made it mandatory for individuals withdrawing PKR500,000 or more to take police security.
Bank managers must now directly contact the relevant police station to arrange security for large withdrawals. The police have also issued an advisory to all banks, directing them to implement enhanced safety measures.
Finance Minister press conference post Budget FY 2025-26
Key directives for banks:
- Deploy movable bunkers inside bank premises.
- Assign trained security guards with proper verification from registered agencies.
- Ensure guards wear bulletproof jackets at all times.
- Install 8-megapixel CCTV cameras covering all entry and exit points.
- Monitor suspicious individuals entering bank premises.
- Maintain mandatory security guards even on official holidays.
The move comes amid increasing incidents of armed robberies targeting bank customers carrying large sums. Police officials stated that strict compliance will be enforced to ensure public safety. Further measures may be introduced based on the situation. Only time would tell if this would help customers or would widen the wedge of mistrust between police and people.
