PKR rises 10 paisa against US dollar in early trade

KARACHI: The Pakistani rupee (PKR) recorded a marginal gain against the US dollar (USD) on the first trading day of the week.
During the initial trading hours, the PKR appreciated by 0.04 per cent, hovering around Rs278.02, reflecting a gain of 10 paisa on Monday.
In the previous week, the local currency experienced a slight depreciation against the USD, dropping by 0.04 per cent or 11 paisa over five trading sessions. The PKR closed last week at Rs278.12 on December 13, compared to its closing rate of Rs278.01 on December 6.
On the last trading day of the week (Friday, December 13), the PKR stood at Rs278.12 after a gain of 11.19 paisa against the greenback.
PKR versus other foreign currencies
Here’s how the PKR performed against other major currencies on the previous trading day:
Against the British pound, the PKR strengthened by Rs3.87 or 1.09 per cent to close at Rs351.25, compared to Rs355.12 on Thursday, December 12.
It gained Rs1.54 or 0.52 per cent against the Euro, closing at Rs291.06 from Rs292.60.
The PKR appreciated by 9.09 paisa or 0.24 per cent against the Chinese yuan, ending at Rs38.21 from Rs38.30.
The local currency strengthened by 2.98 paisa or 0.04 per cent against the Saudi riyal, reaching Rs74.01.
It rose by 3.26 paisa or 0.04 per cent against the UAE dirham, closing at Rs75.72.
The PKR gained Rs4.03 or 1.28 per cent against the Swiss franc, closing at Rs311.30.
Against the Japanese yen, the PKR increased by 0.34 paisa or 0.19 per cent, closing at Rs1.8197 compared to Rs1.8231 a day earlier.

Since the start of the current fiscal year, the PKR has appreciated by 22.26 paisa or 0.08 per cent against the USD. Moreover, the rupee has risen by Rs3.74 or 1.35 per cent since the beginning of 2024.
