PSX closing: KSE-100 suffers 1,141-point decline

KARACHI: On Monday, Pakistan’s stock market followed the global downward trend, with the benchmark KSE-100 Index dropping sharply by 1,141.5 points, or 1.46 per cent, to finish at 77,084.48.
The index fluctuated within a range of 1,386.85 points, reaching a high of 78,330.09 and a low of 76,943.24.
Trading activity saw 169.49 million shares change hands throughout the day. Among the top decliners were AKBL, which fell by 6.29 per cent, AICL with a 5.05 per cent drop, CNERGY at -4.50 per cent, NPL declining by 4.47 per cent, and PIOC down by 4.38 per cent.
Conversely, the top gainers included YOUW, surging by 31.85 per cent, PKGP up by 7.79 per cent, FCEPL rising by 2.53 per cent, LCI increasing by 2.40 per cent, and EFERT advancing by 1.87 per cent.
In terms of index-point contributions, the largest negative impacts came from HUBC, which reduced the index by 193.72 points, followed by HBL (-79.87pts), POL (-73.57pts), SYS (-69.77pts), and BAHL (-66.99pts).
On the positive side, EFERT contributed +59.73 points, PKGP added +31.57 points, FFC increased by +25.92 points, LCI by +9.65 points, and NATF by +4.78 points.
Sector-wise, the KSE-100 Index was dragged down by Commercial Banks (-423.50 points), Power Generation & Distribution (-179.34 points), Oil & Gas Exploration Companies (-143.93 points), Cement (-119.45 points), and Technology & Communication (-95.22 points).
Conversely, it was supported by Fertilizer (+48.61 points), Leather & Tanneries (+3.14 points), Chemical (+2.94 points), Textile Weaving (+2.37 points), and Sugar & Allied Industries (+0.32 points).
In the broader market, the All-Share Index closed at 49,204.70, down by 546.58 points or 1.10 per cent. The total market volume was 501.19 million shares, up from 443.48 million in the previous session, with a traded value of Rs21.06 billion, an increase of Rs0.56 billion.
There were 248,068 trades across 440 companies, with 129 closing higher, 259 lower, and 52 remaining unchanged.
