PSX closing: KSE-100 rebounds with 0.13 per cent gain

KARACHI: The Pakistan Stock Exchange (PSX) experienced a rebound following two consecutive declines, with the benchmark KSE-100 index wrapping up Tuesday’s trading session at 66,886.26, marking an uptick of 89.94 points, or 0.13 per cent.

Throughout the day, the index fluctuated within a range of 385.91 points, hitting an intraday high of 66,959.55 (+163.22) and a low of 66,573.63 (-222.69) points.

Trading activity remained robust, with the total volume of the KSE-100 index reaching 94.865 million shares.

Of note, PSX’s primary indicator has shown significant strength, surging by 4,554 points, or 7.3 per cent, in the first quarter of 2024, marking its fourth consecutive quarterly gain. In terms of USD, the 100 index recorded an 8.8 per cent increase.

Key contributors to the KSE-100 index included commercial banks (+103.12), investment banks, companies, and securities firms (+79.46), technology and communication (+47.78), miscellaneous (+26.61), and automobile parts and accessories (+15.3) points.

Conversely, sectors such as Oil & Gas Exploration Companies (-49.97), Power Generation & Distribution (-31.34), Tobacco (-18.75), Oil & Gas Marketing Companies (-16.94), and Chemical (-16.17) points weighed down the index.

It’s noteworthy that the KSE-100 index has gained 25,434 points, or 61.36 per cent, over the fiscal year, while the current calendar year has witnessed a cumulative increase of 4,435 points, equivalent to 7.1 per cent.
