PSX closing: KSE-100 gains 862 points

WEB DESK: The Pakistan Stock Exchange’s (PSX) benchmark KSE-100 index reached a new record high on Monday, climbing 862.15 points, or 1.2 per cent, to close at 72,764.24.

This significant gain is a continuation of the market’s positive trend, with the index maintaining upward momentum throughout the trading session.

During the day, the index recorded an intraday high of 73,060.74, an increase of 1,158.65 points, and a low of 72,462.49, still up by 560.4 points. The KSE-100 index saw a total volume of 313.38 million shares, reflecting robust investor interest.

Key sectors, such as information technology, energy, and agriculture, are set for ground-breaking business-to-business discussions, further fueling market optimism.

Of the 100 index companies, 70 closed higher, 28 fell, 1 remained unchanged, and 1 remained untraded.

Fertiliser, investment banks and securities companies, commercial banks, cement, and power generation and distribution sectors provided the most support to the index, contributing 144.31, 130.2, 116.25, 108.79, and 83.5 points, respectively.

On the other hand, oil and gas exploration companies, synthetic and rayon, tobacco, insurance, and modarabas sectors pulled the index down by 20.39, 9.71, 5.63, 4.09, and 0.5 points, respectively.

Leading the way in driving the index up were companies such as DAWH (120.94 points), FFC (86.38 points), ENGRO (60.49 points), ILP (48.59 points), and HUBC (43.62 points).

In contrast, the companies that weighed the index down included OGDC (27.91 points), MARI (14.83 points), SYS (10.04 points), IBFL (9.71 points), and NBP (6.43 points).

In the broader market, the All-Share index closed at 47,351.15, with a net gain of 431.17 points.

The total market volume reached 578.39 million shares, up from 452.16 million in the previous session, while the traded value fell slightly to Rs24.52 billion, a decrease of Rs38.45 million.

Overall, the KSE-100 index has gained 31,312 points, or 75.54 per cent, during the fiscal year, while the ongoing calendar year has seen a cumulative increase of 10,313 points, equivalent to 16.51 per cent.
