PSX remains volatile as KSE-100 swings between gains and losses in early trade

KARACHI: The Pakistan Stock Exchange (PSX) opened the second trading day of the week in negative territory, with the benchmark KSE-100 index witnessing losses during early trade. At the opening bell, the index dropped by 517.56 points to 113,546.34, with a trading volume of 1,092,185 shares as of 9:33 AM.
However, the market began to recover shortly after, gaining 302.24 points to reach 114,366.14 by 9:34 AM, as the volume rose to 8,726,269 shares.
By around 9:45 AM, the PSX had dipped back into negative territory, down by 0.12 per cent or 142.20 points to 113,921.70 compared to Monday’s closing level of 114,063.90.
At approximately 10:17 AM, the index once again showed signs of recovery, rising by 0.27 per cent or 308.99 points to 114,372.89.
Taking this level into account, the KSE-100 index has recorded a 59.53 per cent increase over the past year. However, on a year-to-date (YTD) basis, the index is down by 0.65 per cent. In terms of its 52-week range, the market has traded between a low of 70,562.12 and a high of 120,796 points.
During this time, some of the companies trading in the green included Apna Microfinance Bank Limited (AMBL), which was up by 10.52 per cent or Rs0.98 to Rs10.30. Shakarganj Limited (SML) also posted a gain of 10.01 per cent or Rs4.36 to reach Rs47.94, while PIA Holding Company Limited B (PIAHCLB) rose by 10 per cent or Rs360.85 to Rs3,969.39.
On the other hand, notable losers included Tariq Corporation Limited (Pref) (TCORPCPS), which fell by 12.69 per cent or Rs1 to Rs6.88. First Fidelity Leasing Modaraba (FFLM) declined by 9.52 per cent or Rs0.20 to Rs1.90, and Shezan International Limited (SHEZ) dropped by 9.85 per cent or Rs20.05 to Rs183.53.
In the previous trading session on Monday, the PSX had closed at 114,063.90, down by 1.22 per cent or 1,405.44 points. The benchmark index moved within a range of 2,791.14 points, hitting an intraday high of 116,658.94 (up by 1,189.60 points) and a low of 113,867.80 (down by 1,601.54 points).
