PSX plunges into red as KSE-100 sheds over 400 points

KARACHI: On the third trading day of the week, the Pakistan Stock Exchange (PSX) entered negative territory, with the benchmark KSE-100 index down by 46 points compared to the previous day’s close of 115,042.25, opening at 114,996.25. The trading volume at the start stood at 233,322 shares.

The decline worsened around 9:37 AM, as the KSE-100 index dropped by 222.09 points to 114,820.16, with the trading volume at 5,654,051 shares.

The KSE-100 index fluctuated during the session, briefly entering positive territory and rising to 115,204.1 after gaining 161 points. However, it quickly fell back into the red, losing 455.18 points, standing at 114,587.07 around 10:04 AM with a trading volume of 34,129,438 shares.

Among the KSE-100 index companies, those recording losses around 10:16 AM included:

Pakgen Power Limited (PKGP) down by 2.66 per cent or Rs2.79 to Rs102.21

Yousaf Weaving Mills Limited (YOUW) down by 2.50 per cent or Rs0.10 to Rs3.90

Punjab Oil Mills Limited (POML) down by 1.69 per cent or Rs2.66 to Rs154.99

Standard Chartered Bank (Pak) Ltd (SCBPL) down by 1.66 per cent or Rs0.93 to Rs55.06

Pakistan Petroleum Limited (PPL) down by 1.15 per cent or Rs2.13 to Rs183.80

On the other hand, companies that recorded gains included:

JDW Sugar Mills Limited (JDWS) up by 4.21 per cent or Rs35.81 to Rs887.50

HBL Growth Fund (HGFA) up by 3.04 per cent or Rs0.33 to Rs11.18

Rafhan Maize Products Company Limited (RMPL) up by 2.23 per cent or Rs205.06 to Rs9,400

Unilever Pakistan Foods Limited (UPFL) up by 2.04 per cent or Rs439.88 to Rs21,989.89

Mehmood Textile Mills Limited (MEHT) up by 1.91 per cent or Rs12.79 to Rs681.95

Looking at the 1-year change, the KSE-100 index is up by 79.97 per cent. However, the year-to-date (YTD) change shows the market is down by 0.05 per cent. The PSX has traded within a 52-week range of 59,191.86 to 118,735.10.
