PSX extends rally with 1,300 points surge

KARACHI: The Pakistan Stock Exchange (PSX) opened in the green on the second trading day of 2025, with the benchmark KSE-100 index up by 965.77 points at 117,973.85 at around 9:52 AM, when the volume stood at 39,894,730.
The KSE-100 index had closed the previous day (Wednesday, January 1, 2025) at 117,008.08 with a 1,63 per cent gain of 1,881.18 points.
The stock market gained further, rising by 1,359.73 points to reach 118,367.81 at around 10:14 AM, with the volume at 76,276,105.
As of 11:20 AM, the PSX had not entered the red territory even once, with the lowest point being 117,065.97, still 57.89 points higher than its close on the first trading day of January.
Out of the 100 companies, those trading in the green included PGLC, which was up by 9.98 per cent, MTL up by 6.53 per cent, PSX up by 6.13 per cent, HMB up by 5.41 per cent, and EFERT up by 4.10 per cent.
Companies trading in the red included ISL, down by 3.64 per cent, EFUG down by 3.33 per cent, INIL down by 2.01 per cent, DKGC down by 1.78 per cent, and MLCF down by 1.35 per cent.
The top five companies trading in the green overall were ESBL, which rose by 15.54 per cent, STPL up by 12.29 per cent, IITEFAQ up by 11.81 per cent, SUHJ up by 10.00 per cent, and PPP also up by 10.00 per cent.
The top decliners overall were PMI, down by 18.70 per cent, FEM down by 10.20 per cent, FRCL down by 9.99 per cent, JKSM down by 9.88 per cent, and OML down by 9.73 per cent.
